Mr Justice Mitting has announced that his decision upon Peter Sutcliffe, who killed 13 women, is that he shall serve a whole life tariff. A spokeswoman for the Judicial Communications Office has confirmed that he has started appeal moves.
Sutcliffe received 20 life terms for the 13 murders and the attempted murder of others in Yorkshire. Mr Justice Mitting said: [i]"Apart from a terrorist outrage, it is difficult to conceive of circumstances in which one man could account for so many victims. Those circumstances alone make it appropriate to set a whole life term."
No official date has been decided upon for a hearing.
